Shinkansen Segments
Please look at these rail schedules and comment on any better ideas or options to consider.
Aside from any short shinkansen segments to Kyoto or other day trips, these are the long distance segments we would likely do together. I think it is best to have these plans firmed up and reservations made as soon as practical.
The first segment is Tokyo to Hiroshima on Sat 8 July. We are thinking of sending luggage via Ta-Q-Bin the day before as our connections are tight unless we leave even earlier. If we leave any later than the 8:03 Hikari, we won't make the connection with our guide in Hiroshima. We were unable to secure a van taxi, so we need to reserve 2 regular taxis to pick us up ~7:00 am.
The second segment is Hiroshima to Miyakojima. Our hotel is adjacent to the station so we will walk over with our luggage. There are rail connections that avoid walking between stations, so we could go by rail if we take our luggage. The other option is to take 2 taxis from Shin-Osaka station to Miyakojima.
The third segment is Miyakojima back to Kintomi. We have a jumbo taxi reserved to take us to Shin-Osaka station from Miyakojima for 8:00 am pickup. (Is Tim Chiang-Lin coming with us?) From there, there are 3 options we can choose from that avoid walking between stations:
1. Shinkansen to Tokyo Station and 2 taxis to Kintomi.
2. Shinkansen to Tokyo Station, then JR Yamanote to Yoyogi via Osaki, then Toei Subway to Kachidoki.
3. Shinkansen to Shinagawa, then Keikyu to Daimon via Sengakuji, then Toei Subway to Kachidoki.
We've taken the Keikyu several times as it goes through Kamiooka Station in Yokohama. Some of the Keikyu trains on that line split, with half going to Haneda Airport, and the rest going on to Tokyo where it amazingly goes underground and becomes the Toei Asakusa Line. Shinagawa is after the Haneda split, and we would stay on it as subway and change to the Toei Oedo Line at Daimon Station.
Both Options 2 and 3 look more complicated than they are, but there are 2 train changes without walking between stations.
Option 3 costs about 1 buck more, and saves almost 40 minutes.
So please look them over carefully, and Comment as to what you think is the best routing.
For Segment 2, should we do all rail or taxi at the end?
For Segment 3, should we take taxis at the end? or do all rail? if rail which Option?
If we can decide on the Shinkansen departure train, we can see if they will allow us to make all the reservations before we activate our Rail Passes.
So please look it over and comment.

ReplyDeleteWe want to hit the ground running tomorrow. If we know which train, we can reserve our seats.
Really really need you to review carefully and comment on each segment so we can make reservations as soon as practical.
